FAQ

A person who supports another physically and emotionally through advocacy, nourishment, comfort, and listening.
Doulas exist in all types of transitional spaces from birth, death, gender, abortion, loss, postpartum, food, and more.
I am a full spectrum doula - if you are my client I am here for you no matter what happens on your journey.
A doula is NOT a medical professional and different from a midwife/doctor/etc.
For more detailed, evidence based information specifically on birth doulas check out this article written by Rebecca Dekker PhD, RN

Yes. I am up to date on all standard vaccinations including covid 19.
I do my best to be with you in person as much as possible. Depending on hospital policy and/or any illness that may come up on your end or mine I will support you virtually if unable to be there in person.
-
Yes! For every client I book I make sure to have a trusted and qualified backup doula.
It is rare but if needed, this person will step in to assist you in the event that I am unable to attend your birth due to unexpected births crossing, illness, or emergency.
You will have the option to meet them over the phone or zoom.

As my primary focus is on you, I am there to provide support to everyone who supports you.
I encourage you to have support from the people that know you best! They are the expert in you - your fears, strengths, likes and dislikes. I might be the expert in the space and have more experience with birth, postpartum, and abortion including - hospital setting, typical stages, procedures, what to expect, how to navigate decisions when the unexpected arises, etc.
As the doula I come in to fill the gaps, there is plenty to do - from running errands, switching off supporting different laboring positions or comfort measures, allowing them a break or nap, and generally to ease their burden of having to do it all. To help ensure that you and yours have the stamina to remain present during these important moments.

My rate is based on my experience level, and is comparable to doulas in the NYC area with a similar level of experience. Because my fee adjusts with experience, please contact me to inquire about my current rate.
Accessibility and equity are very important to me, because of this I offer a sliding scale for all my services.

Doulas are not usually covered by health insurance - this is slowly changing so make sure to check with your health insurance first!
As of November 2021, Medicaid will cover doula care in Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Oregon with other states slated to follow in the near future.
For labor+birth you can add doula care to your baby registry and have friends and family contribute.
You can use an FSA/HSA if you have one to reimburse you for doula services.
Contact me with any questions about this and we will figure it out! I do not want cost to be the reason someone doesn’t receive doula care.

I go where you go! I support people with a wide range of preferences from home birth to hospital, unmedicated to medicated, low risk to high risk, no intervention to full intervention.
I will go with you if you start in one place and end in another and will be there for whatever changes may arise.
In the rare case I cannot join you due to hospital restriction I will continue to support you virtually.
